They Said It: 2017 NFL Draft

The Bears made headlines early in the 2017 NFL Draft. Chicago traded up from the third pick in the first round to the second selection, before taking North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. The pick marked the first time since 2003 (Rex Grossman) that the Bears have used their first-round choice on a quarterback.

The move surprised a lot of people – including members of the media. Here's a look at what reporters across the Web said about Chicago's trade for Trubisky.

Sports Illustrated
"The Bears sent picks 3, 67, 111 and a 2018 third-rounder to the 49ers to move up one spot for Trubisky. That's a pretty strong indication that a) the Bears believe Trubisky is destined to be a star, and b) multiple teams were lining up for Trubisky (or San Francisco at least made Chicago believe that)." – Chris Burke | Read More

FOX Sports
"An overused adage in the NFL is that you cannot win without a franchise quarterback — the Bears agree and they picked a player they believe can be one Thursday night." - Dieter Kurtenbach | Read More

SB Nation
"The Bears made a surprise move trading up a spot to get the player that they wanted. Then they made a surprise pick taking Trubisky over pass rusher Solomon Thomas or safety Jamal Adams." – Dan Kadar | Read More

NFL.com
"(Chicago) gave up a second-rounder, third-rounder, and a 2018 third-round pick to get (Trubisky). That's not terrible in terms of what other teams have given up to get their quarterback of the future; other teams have given up first-round picks to pick their guy." – Chad Reuter | Read More

ESPN
"Trubisky needs to be Eli Manning or better to justify this move, which means he needs to unseat Bears free-agent signee Mike Glennon before too long." – Dan Graziano | Read More

Bleacher Report
"Chicago is banking on him becoming the cornerstone of their franchise, and it appears he has the tools to be a solid quarterback in the NFL. He capitalized on those tools in his final season at North Carolina, throwing for 3,748 yards, 30 touchdowns and six interceptions." – Timothy Rapp | Read More
