The Bears celebrated Caleb Williams' appearance on the cover of EA SPORTS Madden NFL 27 Wednesday with the unveiling of a mural inspired by the video game cover.
The mural, located at 740 West Randolph Street in Chicago's West Loop, was completed in about two weeks by Chicago-based multidisciplinary artist and muralist Asend. The mural is approximately 25 feet high and 35 feet wide. It features Williams' signature "Iceman" pose and brings the EA SPORTS Madden NFL 27 cover to life through Asend's artistic style, which bridges classical fine art traditions with the visual energy of contemporary urban culture.

"I'm super excited," Asend said at Wednesday's unveiling. "It's an honor to do this for the Bears, the city and Caleb. We're making history here in Chicago. Caleb is the first Bears player to make the Madden cover. It was a big logistical undertaking, from the lift to the paint selection and color selection and scaling this big project. I'm truly proud of it. As artists, we're supposed to serve; serve the community, serve with our talents, and that's what I want to do for Chicago and for the Bears."
Wednesday's event was a surprise-and-delight pop-up experience for fans. Bears mascot Staley Da Bear and the Monster Squad interacted with fans and distributed EA Caleb posters. Media and content creators also attended the unveiling party.
"It's amazing," said Claire Miller, Bears director of fan development and brand marketing. "The kind of events we're looking to do from a marketing standpoint are things that are bringing the community together, celebrating art and this amazing cultural moment that is Caleb being on the cover of Madden 27. It's a special opportunity to be able to bring together creators, Bears staff and others from the surrounding area to celebrate the mural."

Asend enjoyed seeing how passersby reacted to the mural.
"Everybody loves it," he said. "They admire it from up close, from far away. So many photos and videos. Every time I look, I see people smiling. You have families here taking photos with their kids, kids doing the pose. It's been amazing. It's just brought so much joy to everybody."
Wednesday's event included a happy hour for creators and media inside La Josie, the venue adjacent to the mural. Invitations were sent via one puzzle piece from a photo puzzle of the EA SPORTS Madden NFL 27 cover, an effort spearheaded by Saida Rodriguez-Guerrero, Bears manager of fan development and brand marketing.

"I wanted to get creators here, but I wanted to do it in a way where I wasn't sharing all the details all at once," she said. "I wanted to make it something they were excited about and it wasn't just a regular invitation."

Rodriguez-Guerrero added that the mural unveiling was "so special" because "it bridges sports, art and community, and I think everyone was super excited to come together and celebrate a really exciting time for the team."
