Cairo Santos tabbed NFC Special Teams Player of the Month


Cairo Santos has been named the NFC Special Teams Player of the Month for November.

The Bears kicker made 12 of 14 field goals and 5 of 5 extra points in four November games, including 3 of 3 field goals from at least 50 yards.

The 10-year NFL veteran ended the month by connecting on four field goals Monday night, capped by a 30-yarder with :10 remaining that lifted the Bears to a 12-10 comeback win over the Vikings in Minnesota. Earlier in the contest, he matched a career long by hitting a 55-yarder.

On Nov. 9, Santos made 3 of 3 field goals, including a 54-yarder, in a 16-13 win over the Carolina Panthers at Soldier Field.

Santos has made field goals of at least 50 yards in three straight games for the first time in his career. From that distance, he's 10 of 11 since the start of last season after making 10 of 24 over his first eight years.

Santos is the most accurate kicker in Bears history, having made 90.2 percent of his field goals (101 of 112). This season he has connected on 92.0 percent (23 of 25).

Santos has now won three player of the month awards, including twice with the Bears. He was honored in December 2020 after making 9 of 9 field goals in four games and helping the Bears register three straight victories to put them in position to earn a wild card berth in the playoffs.

Santos finished the 2020 regular season making his final 27 field goal attempts to eclipse Robbie Gould's Bears record of 26 in a row set in 2005-06. Santos followed by connecting on his first 13 tries in 2021, extending his streak to 40 straight, four shy of the NFL record and the third longest streak in league history.

Santos also earned AFC Player of the Week honors in November 2016 when he played for the Chiefs.

The last Bears player to be named NFC Player of the Month was defensive end Robert Quinn in November 2021.

K Cairo Santos becomes the latest member of the organization to be named NFC player of the month, marking the 25th time in franchise history a Bears player has received the honor.
