Here are some notable numbers and stats from the Bears' 38-0 preseason drubbing of the Bills Sunday night at Soldier Field:
31
Years since the Bears last recorded a shutout in the preseason, a 16-0 win over the Cardinals Aug. 13, 1994, in Arizona. In that game, Kevin Butler kicked three field goals and running back Robert Green scored the lone touchdown on a 34-yard run. Jim McMahon started at quarterback for the Cardinals.
38
Margin of victory by the Bears, their biggest in a preseason game since a 52-14 win over Washington Sept. 5, 1959, at the Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla. The largest margin of victory in the preseason in franchise history remains a 59-0 blanking of the St. Louis Gunners Sept. 15, 1940. An independent team, the Gunners played only three NFL regular season games, closing the 1934 campaign in place of the Cincinnati Reds after the Reds' membership was suspended for failing to pay league dues. The Gunners moved to the American Football League and disbanded in 1941. The 38 points Sunday night were the most the Bears have scored in the preseason since a 38-24 victory over another St. Louis team, the Rams, Aug. 21, 1999.
