Comeback wins a recurring theme for Caleb Williams

Caleb Williams comebacks 11.10.25 16x9 - 1 NL

The extraordinary is becoming routine for Caleb Williams, who once again valiantly rallied the Bears to another thrilling win Sunday at Soldier Field.

The 24-20 victory over the Giants marked the fifth time in his last 10 starts dating back to last year's season finale in Green Bay that Williams has engineered a late game-winning drive. It's the most by any NFL quarterback during that span.

"I've seen it too many times," said safety Kevin Byard III. "When the game is on the line and we need him to make a play, he has ice in his veins. I think it's just the maturation of the growth that he's been showing and the greatness that he has. He thrives in those scenarios. He doesn't flinch at all. We know if the game is close, Caleb's going to make it happen for us."

Here's a closer look at Williams' comeback wins:

After the Packers took a 22-21 lead on Brandon McManus' 55-yard field goal with :54 to play, the Bears took over at their own 20. Williams completed a 15-yard pass to Rome Odunze and then rifled a 19-yard pass to DJ Moore to the Green Bay 32. Out of timeouts, Williams spiked the ball to kill the clock with :02 remaining and Cairo Santos followed with a game-winning 51-yard field goal as time expired.

Trailing 24-19 with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter, Williams engineered a brilliant 11-play, 69-yard drive that culminated in D'Andre Swift's go-ahead 2-yard touchdown run with 1:34 remaining. On the game-winning possession, Williams completed 4 of 5 passes for 42 yards and rushed for 19 yards on two carries.

"I remember talking to Caleb before he took the field and said, 'This is what you're built for,'" coach Ben Johnson said after the game. "These are the moments that he thrives in the most. That's really been the story of his life, and I know he came through for us in a big way."

Bears 25, Commanders 24
Northwest Stadium

Down 24-22, Williams completed a 6-yard pass to Colston Loveland on third-and-5 from the Bears' 49 to sustain a drive that was capped by Jake Moody's game-winning 38-yard field goal as time expired. The offense had gotten the ball back at its own 44 via Nahshon Wright's fumble recovery of a botched handoff with 3:07 left. Swift then carried five times for 34 yards, including runs of 10 and 15 yards to set up Moody's decisive kick, his fourth field goal of the game in five tries.

Bears 47, Bengals 42

The Bears' seemingly safe 41-27 lead evaporated as the Bengals generated a touchdown and two-point conversion with 1:43 left, recovered the subsequent onside kick and then scored another TD to take a 42-41 lead with just :54 to play.

The Bears answered in remarkable fashion, however, leaving Cincinnati with a scintillating victory on Williams' 58-yard TD pass to Loveland with :17 remaining. Out of timeouts, Williams rifled a pass on a seam route to the rookie first-round pick, who caught the ball at the Bengals' 35, bounced off one defender and outraced two others to the end zone.

Bears 24, Giants 20
Soldier Field

The Bears scored two touchdowns in a 2:09 span late in the game to turn a 20-10 deficit into a thrilling 24-20 win. Williams' 2-yard TD pass to Odunze closed the gap to 20-17 with 3:56 to play. And after the defense forced a three-and-out, Williams' 17-yard TD scramble gave the Bears a 24-20 lead with 1:47 left.

"This week in particular was probably his best week of preparation just as a whole, from start to finish," Johnson said after the game. "I feel like he was locked in from the moment I saw him [Sunday] morning up until that last drive. I think he's doing a good job with all that."
