Roster Move: Bears place Williams on COVID list

The Bears on Thursday placed running back Damien Williams on the reserve/COVID-19 list.

The roster designation was created last year for players who either test positive for COVID-19 or who have been in close contact with an infected person.

In his first season with the Bears, Williams has rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries and caught 10 passes for 61 yards in the first five games. In last Sunday's 20-9 win over the Raiders, Williams started in place of the injured David Montgomery and rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown on 16 carries.

Williams signed with the Bears in March after opting out of the 2020 campaign due to COVID-19 concerns. Prior to that, he appeared in 85 games with 13 starts over six seasons with the Dolphins (2014-17) and Chiefs (2018-19).

Williams helped lead Kansas City to a 31-20 comeback win over the 49ers in Super Bowl LIV to cap the 2019 season, scoring two touchdowns in the game's final 2:44 on a 5-yard reception and a 38-yard run.
