Roster moves: Bears sign 22 undrafted rookies

The Bears on Thursday signed 22 undrafted rookie free agents. Here's a capsule look at all of them:

Daryle Banfield, DL
Brown
Played in 29 games in three seasons at Brown, recording 80 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss, 3.5 sacks and one forced fumble … Appeared in 10 contests last year, compiling 37 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss and one sack.

John Baron II, K
San Diego State
Made 83.3 percent of field-goal attempts (50 of 60) in three seasons, with a long of 54 yards. … Connected on 98.5 percent of extra-point tries (135 of 137) … Last season he converted 17 of 22 field-goal attempts (77.3 percent), including 5 of 5 from 50 yards and beyond … Was named first-team All-Mountain West as a sophomore in 2016 after making 21 of 23 field-goal tries (91.3 percent) … Also handled kickoff duties.

Alex Bars, OL
Notre Dame
Played in 36 games with 32 starts over four seasons, the first three of which were spent being tutored by Bears offensive line coach Harry Hiestand … Started all 12 games at right tackle in 2016 and all 13 contests at right guard in 2017 … Opened first five games of senior year in 2018 before sustaining season-ending knee injury … Graduated last May with finance degree … Father and two brothers all played football at Big 10 schools.

Matt Betts, LB
Laval
Montreal native won two Canadian college national championships … Was named top rookie in Canadian college football in 2015 after leading nation with 12 sacks in eight games … Was selected Canada’s most outstanding down lineman each of last three seasons … Ranked as No. 1 prospect heading into this week’s Canadian Football League draft … Recorded 35.5 sacks during college career … Played in East-West Shrine Game.

Blake Blackmar, OL
Baylor
Three-year starter who opened all 12 games at right guard each of past two seasons … Was named All-Big 12 honorable mention in 2018 … Was selected to conference’s first-team all-academic squad each of last three years … Majored in supply chain management and management information systems … Had highest grade point average on football team at Clear Lake High School in Houston.

Ian Bunting, TE
California
Caught 28 passes for 313 yards in 47 games with 12 starts in four seasons at Michigan (2014-17) and California (2018) … Played in 13 games with four starts last year as a graduate transfer at Cal, catching 18 passes for 195 yards … Graduated from Michigan in organizational studies in 2018 before enrolling in public health master’s program at Cal … Graduated from Hinsdale Central High School, where he teamed with fellow Bears undrafted rookie receiver Thomas Ives.

Jomon Dotson, DB
Nevada
Earned bachelor’s degree in sociology at Washington before transferring to Nevada in 2018 … Played first two seasons as a running back at Washington before switching to cornerback with Huskies as junior in 2017 … Rushed for 302 yards and one touchdown on 65 carries in first two seasons … Recorded 13 tackles and one interception as junior defensive back … … Played in 13 games with 11 starts last year with Wolf Pack, registering 75 tackles, two interceptions, six pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles.

Clifton Duck, DB
Appalachian State
Started all 39 games last three seasons, recording 12 interceptions, 158 tackles, 8.5 tackles-for-loss, 31 pass breakups and one sack … Named first-team All-Sun Belt each of past three years … Scored two career touchdowns on a 44-yard interception return and 62-yard punt return … Tied school record with three interceptions in a 2017 game against New Mexico State … Averaged 10.5 yards on 31 career punt returns.

Emanuel Hall, WR
Missouri
Ranked as No. 1 undrafted receiver by NFL.com’s Gil Brandt … Had 97 receptions for 2,016 yards and 16 touchdowns in four seasons at Missouri … Was named second-team All-SEC after establishing career highs with 37 catches and 828 yards as a senior in 2018 … Averaged 24.8 yards per catch in 2017 and 22.4 in 2018 … Had three 100-yard games last season, nine in his career … Won Tennessee state high school high jump championship with a leap of 6-8.

Jonathan Harris, DL

Chicago-area native who attended Waubonsie High School in Aurora … Established career highs with 59 tackles and 11.5 tackles-for-loss and tied career best with 6.0 sacks last year as a senior … In four seasons, registered 22.0 sacks and 38.5 tackles-for-loss … Was named first-team all-conference each of past two seasons … Served as a team captain.

Chuck Harris, LB
Buffalo
Two-year starter who compiled 149 tackles, 12.0 sacks, 22.5 tackles-for-loss, five forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one touchdown in 39 career games over four seasons … Appeared in 11 games last year as a senior, setting career highs with 6.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles-for-loss … Attended Southfield High School near Detroit, teaming with fellow Bears undrafted rookie defensive end Lawrence Marshall.

Thomas Ives, WR
Colgate
Had 53 receptions for 865 yards and nine touchdowns in 40 games over four seasons … In seven contests last year as a senior, caught 15 passes for 263 yards and one TD … Had a career-high seven touchdown receptions as a junior in 2017 … Served as captain at Hinsdale South High School, where he teamed with fellow Bears undrafted rookie tight end Ian Bunting.

Doyin Jibowu, DB
Fort Hays State
Four-year starter who compiled 276 tackles, nine interceptions, 35 pass breakups, 27.5 tackles-for-loss, 5.0 sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries and two blocked kicks in 48 career games … Most productive season came in 2017 with career-high five interceptions, 14 pass breakups and 7.5 tackles-for-loss.

Joe Lowery, OL
Ohio
Three-year starter who possesses experience at both tackle and guard … Started 13 games at left tackle as a sophomore in 2017, earning second-team All-MAC honors … Was named first-team all-conference last year as a senior.

Lawrence Marshall, DE
Michigan
Appeared in 27 games with one start in four seasons … Played in 11 games with one start (at Notre Dame) last year as a senior, recording 10 tackles … Attended Southfield High School near Detroit along with fellow Bears undrafted rookie outside linebacker Chuck Harris … Pursuing graduate degree in social work after earning bachelor’s degree in general studies from college of literature, science and the arts.

Sam Mustipher, OL
Notre Dame
Three-year starter who was coached at Notre Dame by Bears offensive line coach Harry Hiestand from 2014-17 … Started all 12 games at center last year, making 36th straight start against USC … Graduated last May with a computer science degree … Grew up in Maryland, attending Good Counsel High School.

Adarius Pickett, DB
UCLA
Appeared in 47 games over four seasons, registering 274 tackles, seven interceptions, 13 pass breakups, two fumble recoveries and one forced fumble… Earned second-team All-Pac 12 honors last season as a senior, appearing in 12 contests and recording a career-high and team-leading 123 tackles with two interceptions …His father was selected in Major League Baseball draft and played several seasons in minor leagues.

Ranked No. 1 undrafted tight end by NFL.com’s Gil Brandt … Appeared in 32 games with 22 starts in three seasons at Utah State, catching 72 passes for 873 yards and three touchdowns … After redshirting in 2016, had career-high 41 receptions for 456 yards and one TD while starting all 12 games he played in 2017 … Served a two-year church mission in Russia.

Ellis Richardson, TE
Georgia Southern
Played quarterback at Los Angeles Valley College and Alabama State before transferring to Georgia Southern and switching to tight end in 2017 … As a junior in 2017, played in 11 games with six starts and caught nine passes for 185 yards and team-leading three touchdowns, including a 53-yarder against Louisiana … Played in 10 games with seven starts as a senior in 2018, catching 10 passes for 81 yards and two TDs.

Josh Simmons, DB
Limestone
Played first four seasons at cornerback before moving to safety for redshirt senior year in 2018 … In 44 career games, recorded 224 tackles, 15 interceptions, 50 pass breakups, 12.0 tackles-for-loss, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries … Four-year starter who suffered season-ending foot injury in second game in 2017 … Rebounded to appear in 10 contests last season, registering 93 tackles and two interceptions … Had a career-high eight interceptions as a cornerback in 2016 …Served as team captain each of final three seasons … Bears receivers coach Mike Furrey was his head coach at Limestone in 2016-17.

Marquez Tucker, OL
Southern Utah
Arizona native who started college career at Mesa Community College … Was selected All-Big Sky Conference in each of two seasons at Southern Utah, where he started all 23 games … Moved from left tackle to left guard for final two games of senior season.

John Wirtel, LS
Kansas
Chicago-area native who grew up in Orland Park and attended Mount Carmel High School, where he won state championships in football and baseball … Appeared in 51 career games at Kansas, including 10 last season … Earned a sixth-year of eligibility after sustaining a season-ending injury in 2017 for the second straight year … Currently pursuing an MBA after graduating with a bachelor’s degree in communication studies.
