Injuries thin Bears' linebacking corps

Injury Update 2025 Week 12 16x9 - 1W

The Bears will be without their top three linebackers Sunday when they host the Steelers at Soldier Field.

Tremaine Edmunds (groin), T.J. Edwards (hand/hamstring) and Noah Sewell (elbow) have all been ruled out of the game with injuries.

Edwards will miss his third straight contest, while Edmunds and Sewell were injured in last Sunday's 19-17 win over the Vikings.

The only other linebackers on the Bears' active roster are fourth-year pro D'Marco Jackson, rookie Ruben Hyppolite II and five-year veteran Amen Ogbongbemiga.

Jackson has played 32 defensive snaps this season, recording three tackles and adding eight stops on special teams. Hyppolite has been on the field for 18 defensive plays, registering two tackles and two stops on special teams.

Given the injuries to the linebacking corps, it would be no surprise if they see expanded time on defense Sunday.

"It's a great opportunity," Hyppolite said. "Just trying to go play. I'm ready to go hold it down for the guys."

The 2025 fourth-round pick from Maryland intends to "play my game and do what I've been doing since training camp. I have a great relationship with all the guys on defense, so it's all good. I'm ready to go."

Ogbongbemiga and Carl Jones Jr., the only linebacker on the Bears practice squad, both have played exclusively on special teams this year, in two and seven games, respectively.

In other injury news, reserve running backs Travis Homer (hamstring/knee) and Roschon Johnson (thumb) also have been ruled out of Sunday's game. Both have contributed primarily on special teams this season.

Left tackle Theo Benedet is listed as questionable with a quad injury that limited him in practice Thursday and Friday.

Safety Jaquan Brisker was a full participant in practice for the second straight day but is questionable with a shoulder injury.

Cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson (groin) and Kyler Gordon (calf) practiced Friday without limitations but are questionable and have yet to be activated off injured reserve.

For the Steelers, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is questionable after being limited in practice Friday due to a fracture in his left wrist he sustained last Sunday in a win over the Bengals. Asked about Rodgers' availability, Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin said Friday, "We'll see where the weekend leads us."

If Rodgers is unable to play, the Steelers would start veteran backup Mason Rudolph.
