The Bears on Thursday bolstered their backfield by agreeing to terms on a one-year contract with running back D'Onta Foreman, pending a physical.

Foreman, 26, has appeared in 43 NFL games with 13 starts over five seasons with the Texans (2017-18), Titans (2020-21) and Panthers (2022). The 6-1, 236-pounder has rushed for 1,901 yards and 10 touchdowns on 443 carries and caught 23 passes for 265 yards and two TDs.

Foreman was selected by the Texans in the third round of the 2017 draft out of Texas. In the 10th game of his rookie year, he sustained a torn Achilles tendon near the end of a 34-yard touchdown run in a win over the Cardinals, ending his season after rushing for 327 yards and two TDs on 78 attempts.

Foreman missed most of the 2018 season while recovering from the injury, playing in just one game Dec. 23. After sitting out the 2019 season, he was signed to the Titans practice squad Sept. 29, 2020, and ultimately appeared in six games, rushing for 95 yards and three TDs on 22 carries.

In 2021, Foreman spent training camp with the Falcons but was released before the start of the season. He rejoined the Titans Nov. 2, 2021, three days after star running back Derrick Henry had suffered a season-ending foot injury. Foreman made the most of the opportunity, helping to lead Tennessee to the AFC South championship by rushing for 566 yards and three TDs on 133 attempts while playing in nine games with three starts.

Foreman signed with the Panthers last March and thrived after becoming Carolina's lead running back following a midseason trade that sent Christian McCaffrey to the 49ers. Foreman established career highs in all rushing categories with 203 attempts, 914 yards and five touchdowns. He had five 100-yard games—with efforts of 165, 130, 118, 118 and 113 yards.

Foreman is the ninth free agent the Bears have added since the start of free agency Wednesday. He follows linebackers Tremaine Edmunds and T.J. Edwards, guard Nate Davis, defensive end DeMarcus Walker, running back Travis Homer, quarterback P.J. Walker, defensive tackle Andrew Billings and tight end Robert Tonyan.

Foreman played with Davis on the Titans in 2021 and P.J. Walker and new Bears receiver DJ Moore with the Panthers last season.
