Roster Move: Bears sign Marquise Goodwin

The Bears on Friday bolstered their offense by signing speedy free agent receiver Marquise Goodwin to a one-year contract.

Goodwin, 30, has appeared in 75 NFL games with 40 starts over seven seasons with the Bills (2013-16) and 49ers (2017-19), catching 140 passes for 2,323 yards and 13 touchdowns. He opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19 concerns as a member of the Eagles.

Goodwin was selected by the Bills in the third round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Texas. The 5-9, 180-pounder later signed with the 49ers and had his best season in his first year in San Francisco in 2017, starting all 16 games and catching 56 passes for 962 yards and two touchdowns.

His most productive NFL game remains a 126-yard, two-touchdown performance in a 2018 loss to the Packers in Green Bay.

Goodwin was traded by the 49ers to the Eagles last April. But he never played for Philadelphia, opting out of the 2020 season. Due to a stipulation in the trade, his rights reverted to the 49ers last month, and he was released by San Francisco.

Goodwin represented the United States at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games as a long jumper, an event in which he won two national college championships when he attended Texas.

Last month, Goodwin competed in the long jump for the first time since 2016, winning the event at the Florida International Pro Addition with a jump of 26 feet, 7¾ inches. His jump was an Olympic-qualifying mark and the fourth longest in the world this year.

Goodwin is the eighth player to join the Bears from another NFL team since the start of the new league year March 17. He follows quarterback Andy Dalton (Cowboys), running back Damien Williams (Chiefs), offensive lineman Elijah Wilkinson (Broncos), defensive lineman Angelo Blackson (Cardinals), outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu (Broncos), linebacker Christian Jones (Lions) and cornerback Desmond Trufant (Lions).

Take a look at new Bears WR Marquise Goodwin in action. In seven NFL seasons with San Francisco and Buffalo, Goodwin has caught 140 passes for 2,323 yards and 13 touchdowns.
