Coach of the Year
Each year, the Chicago Bears choose a Coach of the Year and they receive $2,000 for the high school football program. All 32 NFL teams nominate one coach and they have a chance to win the Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year Award. All coach nominees should demonstrate a commitment to the health and safety of their players as well as the exemplary characteristics of the late Coach Don Shula. In 2023, Rochester High School head football coach, Derek Leonard, was the Bears Coach of the Year winner and our Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year nominee. He led the Rochester Rockets to their ninth IHSA Football State Championship since 2010.
