The Bears on Monday officially placed quarterback Jay Cutler on injured reserve and signed cornerback Johnthan Banks.
Banks was selected by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Cutler injured the labrum in his right throwing shoulder Nov. 20 in a road loss to the Giants. He initially rehabbed the injury in an attempt to return to action this season, but it did not respond as well as hoped and he underwent surgery Saturday.
Banks was selected by the Buccaneers in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State. He was traded to the Lions Nov. 1 in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick and was then released by Detroit on Saturday. Banks has appeared in 52 NFL games with 37 starts, recording 132 tackles, seven interceptions, 16 pass breakups and two tackles-for-loss.
The Bears on Monday also signed rookie receiver Bralon Addison to their practice squad, waived linebacker Lamin Barrow from injured reserve and terminated the practice squad contract of quarterback Josh Woodrum.
Addison was signed by the Broncos this year as an undrafted free agent out of Oregon, where he caught 146 passes for 1,937 yards and 20 touchdowns. He also rushed for two TDs and returned three punts for scores.
