Bears make more moves in personnel department

The Bears on Saturday announced more moves in their personnel department, highlighted by the hiring of Jay Muraco as East Coast scout and Andre Odom as a scouting assistant.

Muraco has 17 years of experience in NFL personnel departments, including the last four as an area scout with the Chiefs. Prior to that, Muraco spent nine seasons with the Patriots from 2000-08 as the team's college scouting coordinator. During his tenure, New England won three Super Bowls.

Muraco also previously worked with the Browns personnel department from 1992-95 and the Eagles scouting department from 1996-99.

Odom joins the Bears after spending two seasons working at Temple as a graduate assistant in 2011 and in player development in 2012. He began his coaching career at George Washington in 2009, assisting with the defense and special teams.

The Bears also promoted scouting assistants Breck Ackley to south central area scout covering Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri and Iowa, and David Williams to scout/player personnel.

Sam Summerville will work as the Bears' southeast area scout covering Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina and Tennessee after serving as the team's East Coast scout since 2012.

The latest moves come five days after the Bears announced they had promoted Kevin Turks to director of pro personnel and Dwayne Joseph to associate director of pro personnel while also hiring Ryan Kessenich as a scout.

Turks joined the Bears as an intern in 2001, assisting in pro and college scouting before being named a pro scout the following year. He remained in that role until being promoted to assistant director of pro personnel in 2008.

Joseph was named assistant director of pro scouting last June, beginning his second stint in the Bears front office. He had spent six seasons in the team's football operations department from 1998-2003, including the last three as director of player development.

Joseph spent eight seasons with the Miami Dolphins, serving as a pro scout for seven of those eight years. He also worked as the team's assistant director of pro personnel in 2007.
