The Bears were busy on the first day of free agency, landing inside linebacker Danny Trevathan (Broncos) and tackle Bobby Massie (Cardinals) on the open market.
They also reached agreements with three of their own free agents Wednesday: Cornerback Tracy Porter on a three-year contract and running back Jacquizz Rodgers and tackle Nick Becton on one-year deals.
Cornerback Tracy Porter led the Bears with 22 pass breakups while making 13 starts last year.
Porter emerged as a pleasant surprise in 2015 after signing a one-year deal with the Bears last June. Appearing in 14 games with 13 starts, he led the defense with 22 pass breakups. His best outing came in a Thanksgiving night win over the Packers when he recorded his only interception of the season and became the first player to break up four Aaron Rodgers passes in a game.
Porter joined the Bears after spending his first seven NFL seasons with the Saints (2008-11), Broncos (2012), Raiders (2013) and Redskins (2014). In 2009, he clinched a Saints win over the Colts in Super Bowl XLIV by intercepting a Peyton Manning pass and returning it 74 yards for a touchdown.
Porter was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2008 draft out of Indiana when Bears general manager Ryan Pace was New Orleans' director of pro scouting. When Porter played for the Broncos in 2012, Bears coach John Fox held the same position in Denver.
Rodgers also signed a one-year deal with the Bears last offseason. In the first five games, he rushed for 41 yards on 14 carries, caught one pass for 10 yards and recorded three special-teams tackles. But he broke his arm in a Week 5 win over the Chiefs and missed the rest of the season.
Rodgers joined the Bears after spending his first four NFL seasons with the Falcons. In 65 games with Atlanta, he rushed for 1,116 yards and five touchdowns on 305 carries, caught 155 passes for 1,104 yards and five TDs and averaged 24.0 yards on 49 kickoff returns.
Becton appeared in five games as a reserve for the Bears last season after being promoted from the practice squad Oct. 6.
