Bears sign seven draft picks, 10 others

The Bears on Monday signed seven of their nine draft picks as well as 10 undrafted free agents.

The draftees who signed were second-round offensive lineman Cody Whitehair, fourth-round linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski, fourth-round defensive backs Deon Bush and Deiondre' Hall, fifth-round running back Jordan Howard, sixth-round defensive back DeAndre Houston-Carson and seventh-round receiver Daniel Braverman.

A look at eight of the 10 undrafted free agents the Bears signed on Monday.

The two remaining unsigned members of the Bears' draft class are first-round outside linebacker Leonard Floyd and third-round defensive lineman Jonathan Bullard.

Harvard TE Ben Braunecker - Highlights

Was named first-team All-Ivy League last season after catching 48 passes for 850 yards and eight touchdowns. ... Topped 100 yards in four of final six games with 123, 133, 130 and 134. ... Participated in NFL Combine. ... Majored in molecular and cellular biology.

Duquesne OL Dan Buchholz

Earned starting left tackle job late in freshman year and maintained it throughout rest of career. ... As a junior, helped his team average 26.4 points per game.

Mississippi CB Taveze Calhoun**

A three-year starter who appeared in 50 games with 36 starts over four seasons, he recorded 161 tackles, 12 tackles-for-loss, six interceptions, three forced fumbles and one fumble recovery. ... Earned SEC Academic Honor Roll recognition every year of his career. ... Played as graduate student in 2015 after earning his undergraduate degree last May. ... Recorded over a 3.5 GPA as an undergraduate student. ... Participated in NFL Combine.

Villanova LB Don Cherry**

Appeared in 46 games over four seasons, recording 331 tackles, 14 sacks, 46.5 tackles-for-loss, seven forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception. ... Compiled 88 tackles, team-leading 12.5 tackles-for-loss and three sacks as a senior. ... Rushed for a touchdown as short-yardage fullback in final game of his college career against James Madison.

Georgia Southern WR Derek Keaton

Was primarily a return specialist during two seasons at Georgia Southern. ... Was named first-team All-Sun Belt in that role last year as a senior, averaging 25.9 yards on 36 kickoff returns and 15.3 yards on 18 punt returns. ... Played first two seasons at Arkansas State and Coffeyville Community College.

Buffalo OT John Kling

Was named second-team All-MAC last season after starting all 12 games and helping Buffalo rush for 1,643 yards and pass for 2,994 yards. ... Nickname and Twitter handle is "Kling Kong."

Liberty WR Darrin Peterson**

Highly-productive FCS wideout who caught 210 passes for 3,094 yards and 26 touchdowns in 36 games over past three seasons. ... Established career highs and single-season school records as a junior in 2014 with 85 receptions for 1,379 yards and 12 TDs.

Oklahoma State CB Kevin Peterson - Highlights

Three-year starter was named All-Big 12 last season after fighting through knee and ankle injuries. ... Appeared in 50 career games, recording five interceptions. ... Limited Bears WR Kevin White to three receptions for 27 yards in a 2014 contest. ... Was an Oklahoma state high school champion in 100- and 200-meter runs.

UTEP OLB Roy Robertson-Harris

Played defensive end at UTEP, where he appeared in 47 games with 33 starts over four seasons, registering 138 tackles, 23 tackles-for-loss and 10.5 sacks. ... Started all 12 games last year and compiled 51 tackles, 7.5 tackles-for-loss and 2.5 sacks. ... Cousin Carl Nicks was two-time Pro Bowler with Saints and Buccaneers.

UW-Oshkosh TE Joe Sommers

Appeared in 40 games over four seasons, catching 87 passes for 1,384 yards and seven touchdowns. Set career highs as a junior in 2014 with 41 receptions for 669 yards and three TDs.

The Bears roster is currently at 90 players.
