The Bears on Monday waived third-string quarterback David Fales.

Selected in the sixth round of the 2014 draft out of San Jose State, he spent most of his rookie season on the practice squad. Fales was promoted to the 53-man roster last Dec. 13, but he did not appear in a game.

Fales didn't practice until the final day of training camp this summer due to an undisclosed illness. But he started the preseason finale against the Browns, completing 14 of 18 passes for 131 yards with two touchdowns, no interceptions and a stellar 134.0 passer rating.
