Black History Month

To kick off Black History Month, the Bears have unveiled their "Deeply Rooted" theme, symbolizing the integral connection between Black history and American history. The thematic will be woven in throughout the club's Black History Month content pieces, community service efforts, an exclusive merchandise collection and more. 

Jarrett Payton, the son of Bears legend Walter Payton, continues to be impacted and inspired by his late father—but Jarrett is far from the only one who feels that away about "Sweetness."

Bears general manager Ryan Poles and assistant general manager Ian Cunningham visited The DuSable Black History Museum and Education Center in Chicago Jan. 24 to tour the facility's exhibits and learn about different time periods in Black history.

The Bears will celebrate Black History Month across all official team channels throughout February. Fans are encouraged to follow along and learn more about Bears and Chicago Black history.

In honor of Black History Month, ChicagoBears.com features three African-American pioneers in franchise history, including Willie Thrower, the NFL's first African-American quarterback.

The legacy of Bears Hall of Fame running back Walter Payton is featured in a brief video celebrating Black History Month on NFL.com.
