Cornerback Sherrick McManis led the Bears last season with 17 special-teams tackles.

McManis appeared in all 16 games with four starts last season, leading the Bears with 17 special-teams tackles. He also recorded 19 tackles and three pass breakups on defense.

McManis was initially acquired by the Bears in a trade with the Houston Texans on Aug. 31, 2012, in exchange for fullback Tyler Clutts. In 2014, McManis ranked second on the team with 13 special-teams tackles despite missing four games with a quad injury.

The 6-1, 193-pounder leads the Bears with 55 special-teams tackles over the past four seasons. He was named NFC special-teams player of the week after he made two stops and blocked a punt that the Bears returned for a touchdown in a 2012 win over the Tennessee Titans.

The Bears have now retained four of their own free agents, with McManis joining cornerback Tracy Porter, running back Jacquizz Rodgers and tackle Nick Becton. They've also signed two free agents from other NFL teams in inside linebacker Danny Trevathan (Broncos) and tackle Bobby Massie (Cardinals).

McManis expressed his feelings about remaining with the Bears on Twitter:
