Bears receiver Marquess Wilson is out indefinitely after breaking his left foot in practice this week for the third time in just over a year.
"It's the same basic injury," said coach John Fox. "They don't know the extent, but it is re-broken and they're still evaluating. Obviously it's frustrating for Marquess."
Wilson missed the final five games last season after breaking his foot for the first time. He broke it again in June during a minicamp practice and spent the first six weeks of the regular season on the physically-unable-to-perform list.
Bears receiver Marquess Wilson is out indefinitely after breaking his left foot in practice this week for the third time in just over a year.
Wilson returned to practice Nov. 7 and made his season debut Nov. 20 in a loss to the Giants, catching one pass for 35 yards. A week later he established career highs with eight receptions for 125 yards and one touchdown in a defeat to the Titans.
Wilson then suffered a groin injury early in a Week 13 win over the 49ers and sat out last Sunday's loss in Detroit. He returned to practice this week and broke his foot again.
"It's frustrating for him," said tight end Zach Miller, who is also out for the season with a broken foot. "It just sucks for him to have that back-to-back-to-back within a calendar year."
Miller, who is one of Wilson's closest friends on the team, can empathize with his buddy, having missed three full NFL seasons before having a breakout year in 2015.
"I've been there before," Miller said. "I told him I was on IR three years in a row and out of football for one year, so I definitely know how to make it through that time period. He can do it. It's a mindset and I'll make sure his mindset is sharp and ready to bounce back."
Wilson was chosen by the Bears in the seventh round of the 2013 draft out of Washington State. By the end of the year, he will have missed 33 of 64 games over four seasons due to injuries. He has played in 31 contests with 14 starts, catching 56 passes for 777 yards and three touchdowns.
In other injury news Friday, receiver Eddie Royal (toe) did not practice and was ruled out of Sunday's home game against the Packers. It will be the fifth contest Royal has missed in the last nine weeks after playing in the first six games of the year.
Nose tackle Eddie Goldman (ankle) and cornerbacks Johnthan Banks (ankle) and Bryce Callahan (knee) were both limited in practice Friday and listed as questionable.
