Roster Moves: Bears activate Ifedi, flex 8 others

Bears OL Germain Ifedi in action.

With 14 players still on the reserve/COVID-19 list, the Bears made several roster moves hours before Monday night's home game against the Vikings:

• Right tackle Germain Ifedi was activated from injured reserve. The sixth-year pro returned to practice Thursday for the first time since hurting his knee Oct. 10 in a win over the Raiders. He has missed the last eight games.

• Eight players were flexed from the practice squad to the active roster They include receivers Nsimba Webster and Dazz Newsome; defensive end LaCale London; outside linebacker Charles Snowden, and cornerbacks Thomas Graham Jr., Dee Virgin, Michael Joseph and BoPete Keyes.

Of that group, only Webster and Snowden have appeared in a regular season game for the Bears, both this season. Webster has played in four contests, exclusively on special teams, averaging 3.3 yards on punt returns and recording four tackles. Snowden, an undrafted rookie from Virginia, made his NFL debut last Sunday night against the Packers, playing six snaps on defense and eight on special teams.

Two members of the Bears' 2021 draft class are among those being activated for Monday night's game: Newsome and Graham were both selected in the sixth round. The rest of this year's draft class has already played this season: First-round quarterback Justin Fields, second-round tackle Teven Jenkins, fifth-round tackle Larry Borom, sixth-round running back Khalil Herbert and seventh-round nose tackle Khyiris Tonga.

Joseph (2018) and London (2020) joined the Bears as an undrafted free agents, while Virgin (Dec. 1) and Keyes (Dec. 15) both were signed earlier this month.

• Safety DeAndre Houston-Carson, as expected, was placed on injured reserve with a fractured forearm that he suffered last Sunday night against the Packers. The sixth-year pro will undergo surgery to repair the injury.

The 14 Bears players who remain on the reserve/COVID-19 list are quarterback Andy Dalton, running back Ryan Nall, receivers Allen Robinson II and Isaiah Coulter, tight end Jesse James, Borom, defensive end Mario Edwards Jr., inside linebacker Joel Iyiegbuniwe, outside linebacker Sam Kamara, cornerbacks Jaylon Johnson and Artie Burns, safeties Eddie Jackson and Tashaun Gipson Sr. and nickel back Duke Shelley.
